Born in Sandusky, Ohio, on January 7, 1953, to Charles and Evelyn Jenkins. He was 1 of 11 siblings, but due to unforeseen circumstances, he was placed up for adoption. By the age of 4 he was adopted by Raymond and Eluda Scott. He grew up in Bellevue, Ohio with 2 adopted brothers. At the time of adoption, he was very malnourished and walked with crutches, they thought he would never walk properly. He went to school in Bellevue, and was a track star during his high school years, staying undefeated for 3 years running the 2 mile.
After high school, he was staying with his uncles in Michigan, and had a major traumatic accident on the farm involving a John Deere Tractor. The tractor had flipped over on him, pinning him under the steering wheel. After a long recovery from the accident, he did some traveling. In 1989, he decided to head towards California, but having hitchhiked from Texas, he stopped in Denver to get some rest and make some money. He started working at McDonald’s on the 16 th Street Mall, where he met the love of his life, Gloria (she was working there also). They lived in Denver and traveled to Ohio to be surrounded by his family. They got married on March 15, 1993, in Norwalk Ohio. They also traveled to Florida, but in the end, landed in Texas. They were married for 30 years. He was a loving, family man, and was devoted to his wife and family, as well as turned to the Lord and was Baptized at Graham Street Church of Christ in Stephenville. When he could, he would volunteer at Basic Needs Ministry testing out small appliances to make sure they worked for those who needed them.
Bill was a jack of all trades when it came to work. He worked for Electrolux, repairing vacuums. He worked a ketchup line for Heinz. He worked in the printing department of a plastics company and a pressing department for a clothing line. He also was a sandblaster for a railroad company that makes insulated railroad safety rails. He spent a good 8 years working for a children’s carnival and travelled with the Shetland ponies all over Texas. Later in life he was a lancer, where he cut steel beams with a cutting torch. As he got older, he was employed with Sodexo at Tarleton State University working in the dining hall.
In March of 2021 Bill was found out he had cancer in his liver, however in April 2021, they officially diagnosed him with Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer, with metastasis to his liver and lymph nodes. He had started off strong with chemo, then took a fall and broke his femur later that year. In 2022, they put him on radiation treatments and that took a toll on him. By Thanksgiving, he was placed on hospice but decided to prove the doctors wrong by living past the 6 months that he was given.
He was preceded in death by his biological parents Charles and Evelyn Jenkins, as well as his brother Charles Jenkins, and his sister Bonnie Jenkins. He was also preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Raymond and Eluda Scott, and his brothers Lloyd and Glen Weaver.
Bill is survived by his wife, Gloria Henry, his children, Emmanuel Campos (Hudson, FL), Alicia Kennedy (Stephenville) and Jay Scott and wife Terilynn (Whitney, TX). Grandchildren Jordan Bender, Aliza and Cadence Kennedy, Aiden, Brooke and Kaylie Campos, Maggie and Lilly Scott, Tristan Stehlin, TaeLynn Farber, Jaxon and Payton Reese. And his beloved dog Kodi.
Surviving siblings include Barbara Krick (Michigan), Carol Jenkins (Sandusky, OH), Paul Jenkins (Lorraine OH), Geraldine Jackson (Norwalk, OH), Rosemary L. Sloan Jenkins (Cleveland, OH), Kay Draper (Wellington, OH), Skip Jenkins (Ohio).
