Timothy Thompson Obituary

Timothy Bradford Thompson was born in Stephenville, Texas, on August 16th, 1951, to Brad and Betty Thompson.  He was delivered by the late Dr. Bruce S. Terrill, who would become one of Tim’s closest friends.  Tim graduated Stephenville High School in 1969.  He played saxophone in the Yellow Jacket Band and SHS Jazz Band.  Tim married Rita Boucher Thompson, his wife and steadfast companion of fifty-years, on August 6th, 1971.  During his lengthy illness, Rita’s care, comfort and compassion was second to none.

Tim received his Bachelor of Science degree in business from Tarleton State University in August 1973.  He then worked with his father and brother, Tab Thompson, at Brad Thompson Insurance Agency for twenty-years.  Tim and Rita later owned and operated small businesses in Lancaster, Texas and Tyler, Texas.  He was most proud of the time they spent as house parents for young girls at Cal Farley’s campus in Whiteface, Texas.  Many of the girls in their cottage contacted or visited Tim during his illness and expressed their gratitude for Tim’s positive and lasting influence.

Tim loved music, dogs, Tex-Mex food, coastal vacations, his hair, the Texas Tech Red Raiders and his church family.  He was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Tyler, Texas and later The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Granbury, Texas.  Tim was a family man.  His love and support for his children, Tara Thompson Mayfield and Blake Thompson, was unwavering.

Tim entered into rest on May 23rd, 2022.  Survivors include his wife, Rita Thompson, of Stephenville, daughter, Tara and husband Jimmy Mayfield, of Tyler, his son, Blake and wife Paige Thompson, of Stephenville, brother Tab and wife Debbie Thompson of Stephenville, four grandchildren, Kirk McClard and Hayden Herring of Tyler, and Ava and Brooks Thompson of Stephenville.  Tim was also survived by his niece, Kayla and husband Matt Cermak of Aledo, nephew, Daniel and wife Carolyn Thompson of Denver, Colorado, nephew Patrick and wife Kelly Thompson of Houston, and nephew Reagan and wife Lindsey Thompson of Stephenville, and by many special cousins whom he loved dearly.

Visitation will be held at the Stephenville Funeral Home on June 7th, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with remarks from The Rev. Dr. Suzi Robertson at 6:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd (4530 Acton Hwy., Granbury, Texas) on  June 8th, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., officiated by The Very Rev. Doug Travis.

The family would like to thank the nurses and caretakers at Good Tree memory care and Alpha Omega Hospice for their care, kindness and support.  Memorials may be made to the Erath County Humane Society, 891 East Road, Stephenville, Texas or The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
