Sherilyn Svien Obituary

Sherilyn Sue Greek Svien

May12, 1955—February 1, 2021

The family of Sherilyn Svien would like to invite all who knew her to attend a celebration of her life.  The Celebration will be held at the Graham Street Church of Christ in Stephenville on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 11:00 AM.

On February 1, 2021, Sherilyn Sue Greek Svien gained her heavenly reward as she lost her battle with a rare form of cancer, POEMS Syndrome. She fought a six-year battle with this disease and faced it with the same strength of conviction and positive attitude that she had in everything. Sherilyn remained a faithful servant, fully leaning on God for wisdom and putting her devotion to her husband, children, and grandchildren at the forefront of every decision. While our hearts are broken, we join a chorus of hallelujahs surrounding this “faithful servant”. She "fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.”

A graduate of Abilene Christian University and longtime resident of Stephenville, Texas, Sherilyn touched the lives of so many people through her distinguished career of 33 years as a CPA with Boucher, Morgan and Young, her involvement at Graham Street Church of Christ, and her outreach in the community. Sherilyn was a dedicated volunteer and treasurer for Meals on Wheels for over 20 years and a strong advocate for the elderly and those in need. Sherilyn loved to travel, enjoying trips to Kenya, Italy, Germany, Austria, France, Great Britain, all over the United States, and Alaska. She was an avid crafter, making wreaths, jewelry, paintings, and glass ornaments for her family and friends. And more than anything, she loved spending time with her husband, daughters, grandchildren, and family.

Sherilyn had a heart dedicated to Jesus, and that was apparent as her virtues echoed that of the fruits of the spirit as defined in the ancient words of Paul the Apostle: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22). Her generosity, selflessness, and perseverance were unmatched. She had a zest for life and a contagious energy even after being diagnosed with a life altering illness. Sherilyn found joy in other people's happiness, she found excitement in other people's success, and she found patience where others would not. She emulated many characteristics of women from the Bible, Dorcas the giver, Deborah the fearless intellect, Hannah the perfect mother, and Lydia the devout seeker of God. Friends and family would describe her as one of the gentlest, sweetest, selfless, and courageous people they would meet.

Sherilyn was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sue Greek, nephew, Evan Bacon, and her mother-in-law, Charlene Svien. She is survived by her husband Leonard Douglas Svien, their two daughters and their spouses Erin and Dennis Sissell and Kimberly and TJ Boyd with their three grandchildren Blakeley and Brady Sissell and Everly Boyd; her brother and his wife Stephen and Claudia Greek; her sister and her husband Jamie and Terry Bacon. She is also survived by her father-in-law Doug Svien; two sisters-in-law Donna Svien and Diana and her husband Gary Reynolds as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.

She will be missed by so many others they could not be counted
