Roscoe Bennett Davis was born in Morgan Mill on August 18, 1933 to Larner and Elizabeth Bennett Davis. He was their first-born son.

Herbert and Douglas were born later and they grew up in the Morgan Mill area. The boys attended school in Morgan Mill and in Stephenville. Roscoe also studied at Tarleton.

Roscoe served in the US Army from December 3, 1953 to September 15, 1955. He was discharged in Fort Lewis, Washington after being stationed in Korea. He was the driver for one of the officers and always kept his Jeep spit shined. He liked the Korean people and was fascinated by their culture. He learned to like many of their different foods.

After being discharged he went to work in a chemical plant in Grants, New Mexico. He soon came back to Morgan Mill and worked in construction. He built his home himself.

Roscoe applied for and was accepted into the DPS Academy and completed the school and became a Texas Highway Patrolman in 1961. He was stationed in Waxahachie for 18 years. He was well respected and the young folks especially liked him. Today many will tell you that he gave them a freebie the first time he stopped them but the others were certainly not free. They, never-the-less liked and respected him.

In 1975 Roscoe and his three children, Laura, Bennett and Ann Marie married Alice Locker and her three children Wade, Judy and Kathy. In 1979 he made application and tested for a Texas Ranger position and was accepted. He was stationed in Houston, Company A, with Jasper, Newton and Tyler counties his responsibility. After a few years he retired and did much wood working, gardening, and working on our home.

He decided to run for sheriff and won the position and served four years but lost the second election. He then ran for constable and served 2 years before resigning and moving back home to Morgan Mill.

Here he was instrumental in getting the building we are now in built. It was his pet project. He loved seeing it go up. The generous people of this little community made this building and all it stands for possible.

Roscoe was a devoted Christian man. Living his faith every day. We have 6 children, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren 1 great greatgrandchild who will soon be a big sister. They all look up to him and love him to pieces. They ask him for advice, pull pranks, and are the recipients of his pranks. They loved riding on his shoulders when they were small and riding on the tractor when they were a bit older. He was the greatest Papaw ever.

We will miss him every day, in every way.
