Minnie Ruth Carr Obituary

Minnie Ruth Carr was born November 1, 1939 in Waurika, Oklahoma.    She went to the arms of Jesus on December 10, 2021 following major surgery earlier in week.

She is survived by her husband Travis Carr of Alpharetta, GA , son Kenneth of Smyrna, GA, and son Stephen along with daughter in law Haiqi Carr and teenage grandchildren Gavin and Stephanie Carr of Johns Creek, Ga.   She is also survived by her twin sister Maxie Ruth Tenopir of Geronimo, Oklahoma.  Minnie is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Minnie Lee Besherse of Loco, Oklahoma.

Minnie grew up in the oil patch of southern Oklahoma.   She graduated from Loco, Oklahoma High School and then obtained her Bachelor degree in Education from Oklahoma College for Women and Master’s degree in Education from the University of Oklahoma.

She met her future husband Travis Carr (formerly from Dublin, Texas) at the First Baptist Church of Lawton, Oklahoma and they were married August 15, 1964.

Minnie treasured her teaching career with almost all of it being with first grade students.   As she and Travis moved about the country, she was able to teach in a total of six different states until retirement because of health reasons in 1995.

After retirement due to auto-immune disease Scleroderma, Minnie was instrumental in facilitating the Bay Area Scleroderma Support Group.  There she was able to comfort, counsel and guide many people struggling with this disease.

Minnie loved and treasured her family deeply, especially the pleasures of being a grandmother.   She loved her church and fellowship of friends.  She enjoyed living in multiple states and the ability to travel to many wonderful locations.  The yearly road trip to Texas/Oklahoma to visit friends and family was a special joy to her.

She and husband Travis moved to Alpharetta, Ga in 2018 to be near family.   She loved Perimeter Church in Johns Creek and especially fellowship with numerous friends.

Her departure leaves an immense void, but many wonderful memories.

Memorials in her name can the sent to the Scleroderma Research Foundation at https://srfcure.org/
