Mary Hobbs Scroggins

March 20, 1922 ~ December 28, 2020

 

Funeral Services for Mary Hobbs Scroggins will be held at 11:00am Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Stephenville Funeral Home with Reverend Ben McCleery officiating.

 

Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Stephenville, Texas under the direction of Stephenville Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, at your leisure at Stephenville Funeral Home.

 

Mary graduated from McCamy High School in 1940, where she was a Drum Major and a reporter for the school newspaper. Worded as a cashier for 20 years in the grocery business. Graduated Commercial Business College, in Odessa, Texas. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, where she served as Secretary and Vice President.

Mary also worked as an accountant and book keeper at Ector Aircraft for 10 years, where she retired to Stephenville, Texas, where she started her own income tax business. Currently was a member of the neighborhood bunco group.

 

Mary Alice was born to Josephine Hunt and Richard Harry Barton on March 20, 1922 the first day of spring. Preceded in death by parents and four sisters, and one daughter and two husbands: Jack Barton Hobbs, married 35 years; and Charlie C. Scroggins, married 25 years; daughter, Shery Hobbs Rice; sisters, Clarice Mills, Vara Hale, Hazel Sykes, Miriam Whipple; nieces, Donna Hale Sullivan and Jolynn Sikes; nephews, Gary C. Mills and great nephew Glen Mills; stepdaughter, Cindy Scroggins.

 

Survivors include: son, James Barton Hobbs; daughters, Paula VanEaton, Melanie Weiner with whom she has made her home with for the last years; grandchildren, Jacquline Smith, Scott Boyer, Crystal Ruditsky, Jeff Holland, Kevin Weiner, Josh Weiner, Alexis and Cameron Hobbs; great grandchildren, Ashley, Savanna, and Katelynn Ruditsky, Damien Holland, Piper and Darien Boyer, and Cal and Garrett Weiner.
