Delores June Fallin Obituary

Delores June Fallin
January 12, 1927- May 23, 2021

Delores June Fallin, 94,  passed away May 23, 2021 in Abilene Texas. Graveside services will be Friday, May 28, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Duffau Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Friday until 11:00 AM at Stephenville Funeral Home.

Delores June Fallin was born January 12, 1927 on the family farm outside Bluffdale, Texas. The family soon moved to Duffau, Texas where her parents ran the small grocery/feed store. June graduated from Hico High school in 1943 and enrolled in Tarleton College where she majored in secretarial science.

After completing her studies, she joined her parents in Fort Worth, Texas. She worked for a number of years at Champion Oil Company. During this time, she took continuing ed classes to become a Certified Professional Secretary at TCU, took voice lessons and sang with groups, learned to speak Spanish and was very involved with her church.

In 1964, June applied for a job as a secretary at the U.S. State Department. She was assigned as a secretary to the U.S. Embassy in Paris. She spent two years in Paris where she became fluent in French and traveled extensively in Europe; Travelling became a lifelong passion.

Following her time in Paris, June was assigned to the Embassy in Bogotá, Columbia. She was greeted after just three weeks with a major earthquake – something quite foreign to a Texan transplant! She also volunteered on her lunch hour to teach English and helped do mission work with a local church. She also travelled some in South America.

June left Civil Service and returned to the States, settling first in Houston and finally in Fort Worth. In Fort Worth she went to work for Eddie Chiles and the Western Company which she enjoyed tremendously. She continued to travel and work with her church.

She retired in 1989 and moved to Houston to be near her extended family. Finally, she made the move to Abilene in 2010 and has loved living in West Texas and enjoys spending time with her niece, nephews, great – and great-great nieces and nephews!
