Ray Stone

October 26, 1952 — August 16, 2025

Ray Stone, 72, was born October 26, 1952 in the Stephenville Hospital to Runt and Imogene Christie Stone. He passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2025.

Ray attended Chamberlin Elementary, Junior High, and graduated from Stephenville High School in 1971. During high school he worked at Boone Brown Tire and Appliance. Later he worked at Goodyear.

In 1973 Ray started working at the Stephenville Fire Department. He retired as Captain in 2011, with 38 years of service. As well as being a paid fireman, he was a Stephenville Fire Department Volunteer from 1974-1994. During his years as a fireman he had many side jobs including washer and dryer repair, painting, working at Jack’s Exxon, building pallets, and he had a trim shop. For a short time he drove the first Tarleton shuttle bus – an old school bus without power steering.

On October 28, 1977 he married Glenda Lee Johnson and they would have celebrated their 48th anniversary this year. Their son Dennis Ray Stone was born January 14, 1979, and daughter Julia Lee Stone was born October 14, 1980.

Ray loved hunting, fishing, cooking, and music, especially Texas music, attending many music festivals. After he retired he played golf every week with his longtime friends. For many years he spearheaded cooking and catering the annual MS trail ride lunch. Ray was a member of Knights of Pythias, and was a Baptist.

Ray always wanted to be going somewhere – on the way home from a trip he was already thinking about where to go next. He loved the beach, and the Texas Hill Country. He made sure the family went on a vacation trip each year, and continued to go on the family trips with the kids and grandkids. After retirement he and Glenda traveled with the Shaw Globetrotters to many places including Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, Banff, Niagara Falls, a Canada/New England fall leaves tour, and a Transatlantic cruise. He loved to enjoy life and was always coming up with something funny – he had a great sense of humor, and was always the life of the party.

But he really enjoyed being with his kids and grandkids. Dillon and Chloe were the light of his life.

Ray is survived by his wife Glenda, son Dennis Ray Stone and wife Carol of Weatherford, daughter Julia Lee Stone, also of Weatherford; Grandchildren Dillon and Chloe Stone; two brothers Rickey Don and Michael Dale and wife Pam, both of Stephenville; nephew Monty Stone and wife Holli, great niece Harper Stone and great nephew Hagan Stone; five Boling step siblings, Rhonda, Beverly, Len, Laurie, Lily and their children and grandchildren, plus many other relatives and friends.
