Nelda Jean (Bethea) Scott, 74, of Whitney, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025. She was born on December 6, 1950, in Houston, Texas, to Carl and Barbara Bethea. Nelda was the second of four children and grew up alongside her sister, Norma, and brothers, Danny and Mark. She graduated from Jones High School in Houston in 1969, the same year she married the love of her life, Paul Scott, on March 29. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family.
She was a devoted mother to their three children, Paul Scott II, Jamie Jamison, and Barbie Scott, and cherished her role as a mother and grandmother (Nannie). Paul and Nelda first settled in Spring, Texas, then moved to Gatesville and built a successful party business before moving to Goldthwaite, where they built friendships while Paul II pursued his passion for sports. In 1991, they made their home in Stephenville, where Nelda embraced the community, especially cheering on her granddaughter Taylor through her school years.
Nelda was happiest surrounded by her family. She loved traveling, watching football-whether in the stands or on TV-and supporting her children and grandchildren in every activity. She was known for her lively spirit, her unwavering encouragement, and her deep love for her family.
Nelda is survived by her husband of 56 years, Paul Scott; son Paul Scott II and wife Larissa; daughter Jamie Jamison; daughter Barbie and husband Kenneth Linger; brother Danny Bethea; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren with five grandchildren in laws; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Barbara Bethea; sister Norma Butterfras; brother Mark Bethea; granddaughter Cheyenne Rodriguez; and grandson-in-law Tim Mills; great grandchild Ellie Jamison and nephew Tommy Butterfras. Nelda’s legacy is one of love, family, and faith. She will be remembered for her boundless energy, her laughter, and the way she never missed a chance to cheer on and support those she loved.
