Montie Wayne Stewart of Hannibal, Texas went home to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 6, 2026.
Montie was born in Stephenville, Texas on November 25, 1939 to Montie Day Stewart and Berniece C. Fulfer Stewart. He grew up attending Hannibal United Methodist Church. There, in that tiny one room church, he grew to know and love the Lord with all his heart.
Upon graduating from Huckabay ISD and hearing the call to serve Christ, he pursued higher education at SMU School of Theology. As a United Methodist minister, he blessed countless numbers of people and fulfilled his calling through multiple decades of church ministry, hospital chaplaincy, and hospice ministry in the North Texas area.
Montie married the love of his life, Judy, in 1988 and then achieved his dream of building a beautiful country home on their cattle ranch in 1991.
Montie not only preached love, he lived love. He was the kindest, most wonderful husband, dad, and “Poppy” to all his grandchildren. Montie’s family members will remember him for his kindness, words of encouragement, loving guidance, patience, sense of humor and unwavering faith, all of which stayed with him until the end.
Survivors include his beloved wife Julia Dee “Judy” Stewart, son Julian Stewart, daughter Lorna Casillas, daughter Bronya Coleman and son-in-law Keith Coleman; grandchildren Jackson Stewart, William Stewart, Aidan Casillas, Jillian Casillas, Parker Coleman, Dawson Coleman, Garrett Coleman, and Jessi Crandell; sister June Spain; and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother G. W. “Cowboy” Stewart and sister Callie Carey.
