James Howard Evatt

James Howard Evatt, 68, of Stephenville, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 5, at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Ramsey Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM on Thursday, July 3, at the funeral home.

Howard was born on September 10, 1956, in Dublin, Texas, to Kenneth and Betty Evatt. He grew up in Stephenville and graduated from Stephenville High School before earning his degree from Texas A&M University. On August 12, 1977, he married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Maguire.

After college, Howard and Nancy returned to Stephenville to raise their family. They were devoted supporters of the Stephenville Yellow Jackets and Tarleton State University athletics. Known for their unwavering enthusiasm, the couple rarely missed a game and were often seen cheering from their favorite seats.

Howard’s greatest joy came from watching his children and grandchildren compete in sports. Whether near or far, he and Nancy traveled to support them, always proud and present. His love for family and sports was the heart of his life.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; son, Chris Evatt and wife Jackie of San Angelo; daughter, Jessica Waters and husband Michael of Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren, Carter and Cadence Evatt, and Banks and Webb Waters. He is also survived by his mother, Betty Evatt; sister, Carol Chaffin and husband Brian of League City; brother-in-law, Charles Maguire of Austin; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Howard was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Evatt.
