David Walker Deaver

April 23, 1953 — June 2, 2025

Stephenville

David Deaver passed away at the age of 72 years old in Hico,Texas. He was a resident
in the Hico Nursing and Rehabilitation facility and additionally under Wings Over Texas hospice care prior to his death.

David Walker Deaver was born April 23, 1953 to Ted R. and Lena Faye Walker Deaver in Stephenville, Texas. He attended school in the Stephenville school system and graduated with the Stephenville High School Class of 1971. David liked school, but he preferred interacting with his classmates. He attended Tarleton State College for two years before moving to Austin, Texas to work.

In Austin, David was a manager for J.Rich Sports in several specialty areas, including snow ski equipment. David loved to snow ski and instruct, which led him to working in Colorado for several seasons at a ski resort in Denver before returning to Austin and JRich Sports. He also managed several other businesses but wanted more opportunity.

David returned to Stephenville and completed his Degree in Business at Tarleton State University in 1984. After returning to Austin, he was hired at the Center for Electromechanics at the University of Texas J.J. Pickle Research Center as a buyer/purchaser. David had the first of a series of strokes in 2008, but he remained in this position until the effects of the strokes began to seriously impact his ability to do his job. David then qualified for Social Security Disability, but he continued to have small strokes that affected his motor functions. During a later surgery to improve his health,he suffered a significant stroke resulting in frontal lobe damage. At this point, we had to accept as a family that he needed additional care. After searching, we were blessed to have him reside at the Nursing Center in Hico. This environment was a good fit for his care and the problems he faced. The staff there treated David with attentive, respectful, and loving care for years. Their best medicine was unlimited hugs.

David is survived by his sister, LeAnn Jones and her husband Kevin of Stephenville, his brother Steve Deaver of Austin, his aunts, Sharon Deaver Brown and Shirley Deaver Semler of the Woodlands, his nephew Jordan Jones and his wife McKinley and new great nephew Hayden of Cedar Park, two nieces, Paige and Bryne Cavett of Abilene and great nephew Jeremy Cavett. He is also survived by his cousins, Tom Brown and family of Conroe, Linda Nell Hooks and husband Doyle of Ranger and Jerry Wayne and Wanda Walker of Stephenville.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ted Deaver and Lena Faye Deaver, his sister,Martha Jane Deaver Cavett, paternal grandparents Lack and Lois Deaver, maternal grandparents Emmett and Martha Jane Stricklin Walker, and his uncle Robert Deaver.

Again, the Family of David Deaver would like to express our gratefulness, thanks, and respect to all Staff at Hico Nursing Center. Our beloved brother was treated with remarkable patience by everyone, and it seems everyone had a “Deaver” story. We knew some of his exploits, but we heard many new stories recently proving they allowed David to feel comfortable and allowed his mischievous streak to run free.
