Billy Wayne Brown, known to his friends and family as Bill. Bill went to be with Jesus on December 2, 2025. A celebration of Bill’s life will be on Saturday, December 6th, at Greens Creek Baptist Church, with Brother Ben McCleery officiating. A burial will follow at Johnson cemetery on FM 847.
Bill was born on February 20, 1943, in Rockport, Texas, to Clarence Brown and Peggy Etheredge Brown. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Brown and Peggy Ownby, his beloved step-father Sam Ownby, his brothers Vernon Brown, Charles Brown, Sonny Brown, and his sister, Peggy Joyce Campbell.
Bill is survived by his wife, Betty Brown, son Kenneth and wife Sharon, daughter Tami Carr and husband Randall, step-son Kyle Weaver and wife Jackie, step-daughters Kellie Carlson and husband Lyndell, Kris McCleery and husband Ben, brother, Sammy Mack Ownby, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill married Betty Robertson Weaver on March 23, 1979, in Stephenville, Texas. They became a family of seven. He was a man of many talents and interests. He was a self-taught carpenter, the cook of his kitchen, enjoyed fishing and raising animals: goats, chickens, dove, rabbits, and many beloved dogs. Bill’s hands were always busy. Let’s just say Bill’s ADHD enhanced his life. He found joy in simple things that kept him active and connected to the world around him.
Bill worked for a variety of companies over the years including cattle, insurance, construction, and oil and gas. He worked at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Plant, drove for AMPI, and worked for the construction department at Tarleton State University for 11 years. A true “jack of all trades,” Bill worked hard and continued to do so until he professed his retirement at the age of 81.
Bill’s heart was as big as his sense of humor. He had a gift for making others laugh with his quick wit. He could be counted on for a helping hand. He was an active member of Harvey Baptist Church where he cooked, served meals, and helped with maintenance. After joining Greens Creek Baptist Church, Bill continued his loving fellowship.
Bill’s largest achievement was the day he gave his life to Christ. He was a changed man and admired and loved by his family for his new walk with Christ.
Bill was a true giver, who was always ready to help anyone in need. His generosity and kind spirit touched the lives of many, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and selflessness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
