David Charles Hale, 71, of Bluff Dale, passed away Friday, February 28, 2020.

Graveside remembrance will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Glenn Cemetery in Bluff Dale - anyone is welcome and encouraged to share a funny story of Dave at the cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Stephenville Funeral Home.

David Charles Hale was born on October 24, 1948 in Grayson County to the late Davie Crockett Hale, Jr. and Ruth Douglas Hale. He was a graduate of Stephenville High School class of 1967, and a graduate of Tarleton State University. David served in the U.S. Army for many years and worked for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 2014. He married Anita Rhoades on April 1, 1998 in Stephenville.

He was preceded in death by his father Davie Crockett Hale, Jr; his mother, Ruth Douglas Hale; his step-father, Audie M. Parks; his brother, Joe Parks; his sister, Susan Parks; and his daughter, Pam Hale

Survivors include his wife, Anita Hale of Bluff Dale; son, Michael Douglas Hale and wife Wendy of Austin; grandchildren, Avery and Piper Hale of Austin; cousins, Michael Douglas of Arkansas, and Colleen Douglas of Missouri; favorite nephews, Matthew and Andrew Kosler; nieces, Jennifer Haynes and Autumn Bryant; mother of Michael, Gail Campetti; and his baby, Shih tzu, Lexi.

Dave kept his sense of humor until the very end - if he would have had his way, this obituary would have read “David Hale - he died”

In lieu of flowers, Dave would have loved it if you could make a donation to the Foster Children’s Home in Stephenville or the Erath County Humane Society.

I shared this on fb with a friend, but thought it might make someone else smile. Everytime I lock my car door, I remember one evening in high school, while driving on the Stephenville drag, as I stopped, my passenger door opens. Dave gets in and says I need to be sure to lock my doors because you never know what Riff Raf might try to get in and do you harm. My mom had a lot of health issues and David would call me and tell me stories to make me laugh. Might be about parachuting or just any random thing. He asked me for a date once and my much older brother told my parents David was too old and too wild for me. I talked Dad into it and David came in, chatted with my parents and told my dad he'd take good care of me and bring me home on time. We ate somewhere, saw a horrible movie, but it was one of the best dates ever. He made me laugh, feel comfortable and was a perfect gentleman. We never dated again, I probably was still caught up on another boy. But I knew from the first time I talked to him, he was a great person! So very sorry for your loss! May your memories of him make you smile like he made me smile when I most needed it. Beverly Ryan Woodroof
