Arlie Leon McCoy
June 21, 1952 - July 20, 2020

After succumbing to a long battle with cancer, Arlie Leon McCoy was taken from this world on Monday, July 20, 2020. He was 68 years old.

Graveside services for Leon will be held at 10:00 am Friday, July 24th at Clairette Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to view the departed and sign a guest book Wednesday and Thursday at Stephenville Funeral Home, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Born on June 21, 1952 in Levelland, Texas, Leon was son to the late Arlie and Lanetta Dresslar McCoy. In January of 1985, he joined Diane Chambers in marriage and remained a loving, devoted husband for the rest of his life.

As a veteran of the US Army, Leon served his country as a Specialist while stationed in Germany.

Over the years, he worked diversely in oil fields, hair salons, and connected us together by bringing television and internet into our homes as the Plant Manager of Northland Communications. He was also a member of the Church of Christ.

Leon had an infectious laugh and a smile that could turn your day around. He loved spending his time golfing, hunting, and fishing, especially while in the company of good friends. Born with an artistic gift, he was a talented sculptor in a variety of mediums and brought many beautiful things into the world. He spent his life doing what he set his mind to and excelled at it. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Diane; daughter, Traci and husband Jack Pierce; son, Jimmy; sister, Denyse and husband Mike Turner; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many, many beloved pets.

Besides his parents, Leon was also preceded in death by his brother, Pat McCoy.

In this extreme heat, please dress comfortably as there is no dress code. However, it is requested that those attending the graveside service please wear a face mask, and practice social distancing.

"In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a cancer research; Dusty Puddles Dachshund Rescue 2503 C R 7820, Lubbock, TX 79423; or the charity of their choice."

All of us here at Northland will miss Leon's "bear grunts" as we would call them, when something didn't sit right with him, which was usually directed at something we did wrong. Leon had a tremendous amount of pride, integrity and tenacity that held us together throughout the many changes we have experienced at Northland. All of us long timers here have shared our Leon stories together all week, and we laugh at the good times and are reminded of how much we are going to miss him. Rest in peace Leon, and tell Sassy hello!

April - and everyone - thank you for this! Yes, Leon could be such a grump, but had a heart of gold. Such a workaholic and perfectionist - it became hard to leave the work behind. So glad he retired and had at least one good year to relax. All of you long timers are like family and I hope we keep in touch!

Leon was always a tough nut to crack, he once had a fight in the ninth grade with Rudy Mata, Leon would start swinging and Rudy would hit him so hard you could hear it pop and it would knock Leon backwards, Leon would mutter to himself and charge Rudy again and have a repeat performance, Played football with Leon in highschool and he was a great linebacker. I am sure the world is a poorer place without him.
