Delbert Owen Wise

Delbert Owen Wise, 90, of Stephenville, died Saturday, March 3, 2012 in Stephenville

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Werth Mayes officiating. Visitation will be Monday 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. After services are concluded, Delbert’s body will be cremated.

Delbert was born March 12, 1921 in Jack County, Texas to the late Floyd and Mattie Roberson Wise. He married the love of his life, Frances Compton Wise, 61 years ago on February 17, 1951 in Lipan. Delbert was inducted to the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1999, served in the U. S. Air Force, and was a member of the Church of Christ. He had lived most of his life in Erath County. Delbert was a rancher, and stock contractor.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; son, Delbert Wise, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Stephenville; daughter, Lana Smith of Stephenville; granddaughters, Ashley Chipman and husband Walter Johnson of Austin, and Shanna Walden and husband Kevin of North Carolina; special friends, Jesse Richeson and wife Brenda of Portland, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, and many long time friends.

Delbert was preceded in death by a brother, James Lorne Wise; sister, LaVelle Bussey; and a son-in-law, Mike Smith

Family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Foster’s Home for Children, or the Erath County Humane Society.
