Obituary for Nelda Darby (McCasland)

Nelda Darby (McCasland)
Nelda Darby
March 7, 1934 – November 28, 2017

Nelda Darby was called to Heaven on November 28, 2017 passing away peacefully surrounded by her family. Nelda was born on March 7, 1934 in Duncan, Oklahoma to the parents of Hugh and Ruth McCasland. Nelda graduated from Duncan High School and went on to attend the University of Oklahoma. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics, Nelda was married to Thomas Benton Darby on December 21, 1957.

Nelda started the future legacy of her family by bearing life to three bouncing baby boys and one precious sweet little girl. After spending 14 years raising this family in Pampa, Texas, the Darby family relocated to New Philadelphia, Ohio in pursuit of her husband's career interests. A couple of years later, the family relocated again to Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Nelda deeply cared for her family and embraced the Dunnigan philosophy to house cleanliness. "We don't live in a museum, I'm raising kids with values". Nelda completed the raising of her kids with all of them graduating Eldorado High School.

Nelda sincerely cared for our country and believed in conservative principles to government. Throughout her life she stayed informed with political affairs subscribing to various forms of media sources. Nelda was a patriot in her own right.

Nelda sought out and sustained meaningful relationships. As an independent minded strong woman, Nelda genuinely cared for others' well being and would help those in times of need.

Nelda loved animals, particularly cats and dogs. She enjoyed caring for them and watching their very different personalities. Nelda was really fond of the miniature Schnauzers she had over the years along with the joyful companionship they brought her.

Nelda Darby is survived in death by Thomas B. Darby (son) and Vivian of Renton, WA, Mark and Kim (daughter) Garrett of Albuquerque, NM, Pat (son) and Jolie Darby of Phoenix, AZ, and Scott (son) and Donice Darby of Stephenville, TX.

Memorial services will be held Sunday December 3, 2017 at 2:00 PM with visitation starting at 1:00 at French Funeral Home, 7121 Wyoming Blvd N.E. Albuquerque NM.
